Coloring SLS parts - Dyeing

The slight porosity of SLS makes it an ideal material to color via dyeing.  Here is an update on our experiments using disperse dyes to add color to  the printed nylon.

1:  Soak the cleaned nylon part in luke ward water for 30 mins

2:  Measure out the disperse dye - here we used 5ml per 1L of water

3:  Bring to the boil and submerge the nylon part for 30 mins - less time will result in a less strong color

4:  Soak for 20 mins in warm water, then rinse under the tap.

The process can be repeated if the color is not strong enough.  Disperse dyes available from Kemtex educational supplies
